October Goals

Limiting these goals to a smaller amount than usual since a few of them have many tasks involved with completing them

I feel like this month is already rushing by – I’ve got to get started on sooooo much!

Adam Greenberg – A Marlin Tonight

Tonight Adam Greenberg is getting a second chance.

A second chance at playing in the major leagues.

Seven years ago, Adam was up at is first bat in his first major league game when the unthinkable happened.

He was struck in the head with a ball going 92 miles per hour.

His Major League bio reads:

First Game: 7 – 9 – 2005

Last Game: 7 – 9 – 2005

He is the only player to ever have his career end on the very first pitch.

Since that point he has suffered with dizzy spells and nausea but has managed to play on several minor league teams though never returning to the major leagues.

In 2012, a Chicago Cubs fan and filmmaker, Matt Liston, started an online petition to get Greenberg his first official Major League at bat.

The campaign succeeded when the Miami Marlins offered him a 1 day contract to play in their October 2, 2012, game against the New York Mets.

I’m hoping Adam Greenberg makes the most of this opportunity and enjoys every minute of it tonight.

I was watching the Today show when Adam Greenberg found out he would get his second shot. And on Wednesday, I’ll be watching when they have him on in a post game interview.

Good Luck Tonight Adam!

September Goals Revisited

Holy smokes it’s October already!

Where has the time gone?

Before you know it we’ll be having Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Or for Canadians, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas.

I didn’t accomplish all of my goals but feel okay about that since we had several bumps in the road this month.

Add 2 items to Etsy Shop – Check! I added the Baby Shower Prints and the Halloween Conversation Cards. Feels good to have those up.

Find an Electrician to Put a Light in Hall Closet Check! Instead of hiring an electrician, my husband found wall lights you just stick on the wall for the cheap price tag of $29. Now we have light in the closet!

Touch Up Paint DownstairsFail!

Scrapbook 10 pagesFail!

Make Lasso for Wonder Woman Costume Check! If Project Runway had a contest to make little girl super hero costumes that thrill a 3 year old I think I just might be a finalist – excited to show you the final costume.

Make a Nap Mat for Caroline at School – Check! Wrote about it here.

Clean Front Attic RoomCheck! Big job only accomplished by spending 15 – 30 minutes on it a day.

Have a Date NightCheck! A big thank you to my friend Christina for watching my kiddos or this just wouldn’t have happened this month.

Clean My Craft RoomFail! After working on it this weekend, it’s about 40% cleaned – actually a huge improvement from the 0% it was.

Paint Old Shutters Purple for Halloween DisplayCheck! Painted but not up yet.

Make Containers for Desk in Boys RoomFail! But! My husband put up shelves, new desk chairs, and lamps for the boys this weekend so that’s much more impressive progress.

Hope you’re ready for October!

August Goals Updated

Add 2 items to Etsy ShopCheck! I added the Baby Gender Prediction Test and the Baby Guessing Cards!

Continue Cleaning Out the Game Closet with the KidsCheck! So excited we went through and organized. I put the games and puzzles appropriate for Caroline at a level she could get them while older games went up higher. So far, three weeks later, everything has been put away when taken out – and we’ve played Candy Land every single day since we cleaned.

Take Quick Trip to New OrleansCheck! We had a great  four day trip visiting my parents at the beginning of August. My kids think their Grampa has the best job ever – running a park that includes an amusement park!

Make Lasso for Wonder Woman CostumeFail!

Make 3 Meals for the FreezerCheck! I made mounds of pasta and sauce one day so we have 3 meals of spaghetti bake waiting for us to eat up.

Go Through the Boys Clothes and Take Out What Doesn’t FitCheck! A week before school started I set myself up on the floor next to their dresser and pulled out everything. What followed was a fairly entertaining fashion show of long sleeve shirts which were now way to short and pants which looked like waders. But since it will be hot here for awhile, I didn’t buy anything new for the boys to start school except for one pair of sneakers and some underwear.

Make Desk for the Boys Room – Check! My husband used a piece of wood we had in the garage and I found four desk legs at IKEA for $3.95 each so the new desk cost us just over $16.00! Now I’m planning on getting containers for art supplies, a lamp, and some shelves above the desk to finish out the space. My vote was to paint their room but it was vetoed so the builder beige stays.

Make Pillow for Guest RoomFail!

Enjoy the Last Weeks of Summer Check!

Hope you accomplished what you wanted to in August!

July Goals Revisited

Unbelievably, it’s already August, which means it’s time to update you on the progress of my July goals.

Add item to etsy shopCheck! I added the “All About Me” form for kids to fill out.

Clean Out Game Closet with KidsFail! We’ve worked out way through about 5% of the closet.

Bring Clothes to an Environmentally Friendly Dry Cleaner Check! and WILL NEVER DO AGAIN! Umm, people. Do you know how much an environmentally friendly dry cleaner costs? I took one dress in to be cleaned and was stunned when the price came to $10.93. I seriously had three one dollar bills in my hand waiting to pay and had to dig through my wallet for more money.I am all for helping the environment but this is one area where I will not be switching.

Add Crown Moulding in the Guest Bathroom Fail! I was wishing and hoping but sadly those by themself don’t put crown moulding up.

Go on a Date NightCheck! We actually went for a lunch date and went to IKEA and grocery shopping without the kids – amazing how fast you can accomplish both of these when there are only adults in the mix.

Create items for Amanda’s Shower Check! I shared some decor from the party – (food flags), (felt garland), (cupcake decorations) with hopefully another crafty post soon to follow.

Make Wonder Woman Costume for Caroline Three-Fourths of a Check! So far I’ve made the crown, the cuffs, spray painted her boots red, and bought the red shirt and blue skirt. All I need to complete the outfit is a little golden lasso.

Did you accomplish anything you wanted to in July?

Olympic Story – John Orozco

I’m a sucker for a good Olympics story.

A story of struggling, a story of adversity, a story of conquering.

John Orozco, an Olympic gymnast from the Bronx, has such a story.

John’s dad saw a flyer for free lessons and jumped at the chance for his 7 year old to participate.

Once Orozco reached a certain level and needed more intensive coaching, the entire family worked at the gym since they were unable to afford it.

When the family would travel to away meets, they would cram John’s mattress into the back and sleep in the car.

Now when you see his mom and dad in the stands in London you just feel the overwhelming pride they have for their son.

I came across this music video starring John and wanted to share it with you.

I’m a fan of the music and of the athlete.

Is there a special Olympic athlete you’re cheering on this year?
