I Heart this Room

My favorite room in the house also happens to be the smallest room in our house. I think the 2 reasons it’s my favorite room is because I made everything in the room and it’s finished. Can we hear an “Oh Yeah – it’s finished!”

The first thing I found for the room was the shower curtain fabric. I bought it all the way back in June but finally got around to making the curtain in September.

right side of roomThe animal fabric and matching dot fabric are from City Craft. It is one of my favorite places to find unique fabrics. I think I’ve bought more fabric from there than actually made projects.close up curtainThis is as close up of a picture you are going to get since my sewing skills are horrible. I hate to read through tutorials or read directions. I prefer instead to look at the pictures and figure out how to make something. Perhaps that accounts for never having enough fabric in the end.

I decided the curtain wasn’t long enough so I needed to make loops at the top to extend its length. I was shopping in IKEA one day when I found a black pillow case in the clearance section for $0.99. Bingo. I found my material for black loops.

black loopsFor artwork in the room I bought a few pieces of scrapbook paper in the same colors and made some art. I used the tracer (the best art tool ever) to make the animal shape from the fabric larger so I could trace it onto some paper. I already had all the frames from some previous kitchen art.giraffeI also painted the walls white since I thought it would look better than the builder’s tan we have everywhere else.elephantI had seen the quote below on other blogs and just made in a font and some colors that coordinated.wash brush, etc

Just one more peek since I love it so.

  1. Jen – that is AWESOME! The shower curtain looks great, and the wall art is adorable. I would be proud, too. I don’t really have a favorite room in this house. I find that renting (the company doesn’t want us to buy while “abroad”) really fizzles the creativity and desire to put in any major effort. I keep it relatively clean, but that’s about it. :o\

  2. The room looks amazing Jen! I think your sewing skills are coming along quite nicely and the room is fantastic – I love the quote.
I’d have to say my favourite room in our house is the kitchen. Seeing as I spend most of my time in there I’m glad we’ve done what we have and it just seems ‘cozy bistro’ to me.

  3. I love what you have done….with your creativity you should market the simple fix for dull bathrooms. Include art work.

  4. I’m visiting from she wears flowers. This is awesome! I absolutely love the shower curtain! I wish I knew how to sew. It is on my to-do list.

I love comments and appreciate you taking the time to write.
I honestly don’t know how to sew, I just go with what I think I will work. You don’t see a picture of the back of the curtain because it’s a disaster.

  5. Love the colors and your print. I’m so impressed w the sewing!

My machine is still in the box. I need to make a simple rectangularvtwo sided cover (for a bird cage) and I don’t even know where to begin.

  6. So cute! I LOVE the shower curtain. The wall art is adorable, too. No wonder it’s your favorite room! I think my favorite room is my little girl’s bedroom. I’ve been slowly (very slowly) decorating it, and I’m really pleased with it right now. Not sure if it’s done yet, but I like it.
